周末,天生与韩铃在市立第一公园的湖面上划船时意外地发现了一具无名女尸。巡捕房立刻行动起来,展开对死者身份的调查。在女佣陈嫂搀扶下前来认尸的严老夫人确认死者是自己的儿媳文琴喧。韩铃验出死者怀有三个多月的身孕,严老夫人愕然——因为自己的儿子严守正三年前远赴南洋打工遭遇海难,儿媳肚子里的孩子又是从哪里来的呢?探长亨利前往文琴喧生前就职的洋行查案,在她同事的口中得知,文琴喧曾与公司留洋归来的经理助理顾云波偷偷搞“自由恋爱”,而顾云波又早与上海钟表行大户曾家独女曾绣订了亲。亨利上曾家拜访,恰逢大小姐曾绣正在房间训斥一名神秘男子,并拒绝与亨利见面。由于顾云波下落不明,亨利不得不将疑点放在了曾绣身上。与此同时,相信“凡杀人必有痕迹”的天生则查出公园并非是凶手行凶之处,并在韩铃的配合下调查出了文琴喧被害的第一现场。在那里,他们意外遇到宣称严家闹鬼要辞职回家的陈嫂。为了一探究竟,天生与韩铃去探访严宅,发现严老夫人早就订好了两天后的船票准备回老家。面对天生的盘问,严老夫人支支吾吾,多有遮掩,似乎不愿多说什么,她的异常引起了天生的怀疑。为了探知真相,天生假意带着韩玲告辞。送韩玲回家后,天生在半夜悄悄潜返严宅,杀了一个回马枪,并引出了陈嫂口中所说的严宅之“鬼”——原来这“鬼”不是别人,而是严老夫人的儿子——历经千辛万苦在海难中幸存回来的严守正!天生立刻怀疑严守正与文琴喧之死有关,奔走于码头与船厂进行调查,发现严守正并未在回沪时间上撒谎——也就是说,严守正不具备作案时间。正在天生苦于查不出任何证据的时候,严守正却带来了新的线索:一本从神秘男子身上夺取的跟踪记录本!严守正称自己被一神秘男子跟踪,引起他的怀疑,本想抓住这名男子到巡捕房训问,但却被该男子仓皇逃脱,但所幸捡到了从该男子身上遗落的记录本。根据这一线索,天生与亨利得知原来这位神秘男子一直在偷偷跟踪文琴喧与顾云波!父子两根据记录本上的指使赶到文、顾二人常常幽会的小旅馆,意外地在房间床下发现了另一具尸体,亨利很快想起这名死者就是自己在曾绣家曾经见过的人!为了查出真凶,巡捕房有意隐瞒死者死亡的消息,亨利与天生父子两也分别针对曾绣和严守正展开试探与调查。探员们在曾绣家搜出了与案件有重大的关系的证物,但曾绣却矢口否认自己与凶杀有关,只承认自己因妒忌顾云波与别的女人有染而雇人跟踪过他们。为了搜集更多的证据,亨利派人暗中盯住曾绣,却被曾绣发现并甩脱。亨利与天生父子两一筹莫展——与案情有着重大关系的顾云波自文琴喧被害的雨夜后踪迹全无;最大的嫌疑人曾绣又消失在巡捕房视线中;而始终把严守正当作第一嫌犯的天生又苦于找不到证据。时间紧迫,然而解开谜团的钥匙在哪里?凶手是谁?真相又到底是什么呢?
通天神偷

等待方舟
Set in an underground dungeon inhabited by bundled, ragged human beings, after the nuclear holocaust. The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart. Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory? n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in. What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts. On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired. One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places. Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.
